Live Storytelling Returns to DAC May 24!

Disability Action Center is excited to bring an evening of live storytelling back for “SpeakEasy Live #2” on Wednesday, May 24th, 6:30 to 8:00 PM in the  DAC Community Room, 1161 East Ave in Chico.  We presented our inaugural event, SpeakEasy Live #1, way back on December 29th of last year.  It was a fun and entertaining evening that featured the talented, Santy Gray, who shared a very personal tale about family photo of a vintage audio microphonedynamics and even included a bit of impressive gospel singing! DAC Executive Director, Evan LeVang, told a story that took place while he was a young performer in an internationally-traveling Wild West Show.  There were musical performances and poetry readings, as well. So, you never know what you’re going to hear at SpeakEasy Live. Do you have a story to tell?  Trick Question!  Because EVERYONE has a story to tell!

Don’t let your stories fade away – give them life by telling them!

We are presenting Storytelling Workshops designed for everyone from absolute beginners to experienced public speakers.  The workshops feature video tutorials on storytelling structure and performance;  provide opportunities to brainstorm story topics and to work on developing and refining your 10-minute story for live performance.

Join us for our next workshop on Thursday, May 11 at 3:00 PM, DAC Chico at 1161 East Ave.

By the way, criteria for SpeakEasy Live stories is that the stories be true, first-person accounts that can be told in about a 10-minute time frame.  We allow storytellers to use notes or any assistive device they choose.  People with communication-related disabilities are welcomed and encouraged to participate.  For more information please call Carolyn Nava at (530) 893-8527 – Extension 114.
