“In one year alone, TBIs accounted for approximately 2.2 million emergency department visits, with 280,000 hospitalizations and 50,000 deaths” in the United States as reported by the CDC in March 2015. It has been recorded that 2 percent of the American population, approximately 30 million have been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, but hidden TBIs could potentially increase that number to over 60 million in the U.S.A.
Disability Action Center has supported independence and provided no charge services and programs to people with disabilities since 1980 in Northern California communities.
Today, Disability Action Center is pleased to announce our new free community service in Shasta and Butte Counties. Our Traumatic Brain Injury Program (TBIP) is open to individuals who have sustained a traumatic brain injury, as well as their family members and caregivers.
Traumatic Brain Injury Program “TBIP” services will be provided through a person centered system which respects and responds to the individual’s needs, goals and values. Core services include service coordination, supported living, community integration, vocational supports, information and referrals, while providing both public and professional education.
